CFC MEMORANDUM 2000-01
MEMORANDUM FOR LOCAL FEDERAL COORDINATING COMMITTEES AND PRINCIPAL
COMBINED FUND ORGANIZATIONS
| FROM: |
MARA T. PATERMASTER, DIRECTOR
OFFICE OF CFC OPERATIONS |
| SUBJECT: |
Best Practices in the CFC - Request for Abstracts |
The CFC Operations Office is issuing "A Call for Abstracts"
for information that describes strategies developed by your campaign that
have made a significant difference. The goal of this initiative is to
build a body of information about what works best in the CFC so it can
be shared with others who are interested in learning from the successes
that continue to make the CFC an outstanding model of campaign giving.
CFC BestPractice
Abstracts will be compiled
into a single document for dissemination and distribution during the
Regional Meetings and the CFC Operations website, and will later be
considered for recognition during the National CFC Awards presented
during Public Service Recognition Week in early May.
In
order to compile these in time for the first Regional Meeting scheduled
March 19-21 in San Diego, we must receive
your abstract no later than February 20, 2000.
Abstracts will be classified into the following five categories:
| I. |
Campaign
Marketing |
| II. |
Campaign
Administration/Management |
| III. |
Donor
and Volunteer Recognition |
| IV. |
Collaborations |
| V. |
Other
Innovations |
Attached
are brief guidelines for the submission of abstracts. We strongly encourage
you to submit strategies that also reflect the work performed by the
LFCC's, not just the PCFO's.
If
you have any questions regarding the submission of abstracts or the
guidelines, please contact Ms. Gail Davis at 202-606-2564.
We
look forward to hearing from you!

Best Practices Abstracts
Guidelines
for Submission
Deadline
for Submission: February 20, 2000
The abstract should tell us your story in a one page narrative
statement that answers the questions outlined below. You may add other
relevant information that you think others would benefit from when implementing
a similar strategy.
| VI. |
What
was the best practice strategy and what were the circumstances
that led to its development (i.e., need to increase participation,
promote campaign visibility, motivate donors, strengthen campaign
oversight or administration, stimulate volunteer involvement,
engage the interest of younger workers, promote more collaborations,
etc.) You may also wish to explain how you fully implemented
a process that was working well. |
| VII. |
What
was new or innovative about the strategy? An innovation does
not necessarily mean that it has not been done before, but it
may reflect an activity that was new to your campaign. |
| VIII. |
What
principal aspect of the campaign was improved? |
| IX. |
What
lessons
did you learn in the process? |
Abstracts
will be classified in the following five categories. We have provided
you with examples to assist you in selecting a category. Your abstract
should indicate the category in the top left margin and if the project
or initiative had a name please include this as well.
Categories:
| X. |

Marketing (i.e.,
application of new marketing methods or technology) |
| XI. |
Campaign
Administration/Management (i.e.,

of containing administrative costs, application review processes,
improving accountability, promoting LFCC-PCFO cooperation, evaluating
campaign results, data systems, automated giving initiatives,
etc.) |
| XII. |
Donor
and Volunteer Recognition (strategies
for motivating donors, maintaining and renewing the volunteer
involvement, LE training, etc.) |

in the campaign, etc.) |
| XIV. |

is an open-ended category that looks for Best Practices that
are new to your CFC and that address an aspect of the CFC that
is not covered in the above categories. Tell it like it is!) |
