Principal Objective:
Serves as a Regional Economist and performs, coordinates, and evaluates economic
investigations and studies in connection with water resources development
surveys, design memorandum, and detailed project reports.
Series Definition:
Requires application of professional knowledge of economics in performance
of duties that include research into economic phenomena, analysis of economic
data, preparation of interpretive reports, and advice and consultation on
economic matters to governmental officials & the private sector.
General Duties and Responsibilities:
Carries out projects as a full member of a research team or as an independent
researcher under general direction and guidance on project objectives, limits,
work plans, and conclusions, assessing accuracy and reliability of results
and documenting assignments according to accepted principles and methods;
or performs nonresearch engineering, economic, statistical, or computer services
as an independent technical specialist or analyst in a specific area; or performs
other scientific services at an equivalent level of difficulty.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Graduate, or equivalent, full-performance level knowledge of the theories,
principles, and methods of a technical professional field and of a specialty
within that field, and the ability to define problems, perform background
research, develop, and execute a project plan, organize and evaluate results,
and prepare reports of findings.

Specialty Description:
011060 Economics -Impact Assessment Research and analyze indicators of prospective
economic impact of alternative program decisions by DoC in providing infrastructure
support for U. S. industry and Government programs; work collaboratively with,
and write for, senior scientists and engineers, managers, industry specialists,
economists, and policy makers across forefronts of multiple technologies of
designated NIST program areas; develop new economic methodologies as needed.
Requires knowledge of science, engineering, technologies, economics, industrial
competitiveness, and analytical writing.
