This session will highlight two very successful awards programs currently in use. The Census Award Recognition System (CARS) is a user-friendly automated system for managers that ensures timely recognition of employees and provides improved tracking and control of funds. Claudia Thornburg and Geof Pejsa from the Department of Commerce's Bureau of the Census will share and discuss CARS' implementation process, lessons learned, and results achieved. Thomas Geloneck from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Ann Arbor Healthcare System, will discuss his organization's team award program. The program was designed and implemented to shift recognition from individual performance awards to team awards and to link performance incentives with the organization's strategic plan.
