Tests


Tests designed to evaluate candidates' job-related competencies for employee selection, promotion, and development purposes are available for agency use on a rental basis. OPM tests are developed and validated for specific occupations and occupational areas. Occupational areas for which tests are currently available include:

OPM tests are designed to measure a wide range of competencies including:

  • Cognitive competencies such as reading, reasoning, and mathematical reasoning
  • Social and motivational competencies such as conscientiousness, self-management, teamwork, and interpersonal skills
  • Competencies requiring perceptual speed and accuracy such as attention to detail.

In addition to standard multiple-choice formats, tests options also include biographical information inventories, situational judgment tests, job knowledge tests, and writing assessments.
