Open Season Program Educational Video

Studio Scene
Below are links to a video which contains essentially the same information that was presented at the educational meetings held during Open Season by Long Term Care Partners around the country.

The video is available either as streaming video, which can be viewed using RealOne Player as it is downloaded, or as a zipped file which you can download now and view later (using RealOne Player OR Windows Media Player, which is available on most Windows computers already).

The high resolution downloadable copy is only practical for those people who have a fast connection for downloading, and is ideal for agencies who wish to share it with a number of people locally. If you have a dial-up connection, you may want to download the low-resolution copy and view it off-line, as this will eliminate the occasional dropouts that you may experience while watching the online version.

Get a RealOne Player
You will need RealOne Player software to view the streaming video files. To view the zipped files, you will need either the RealOne Player or Windows Media Player (included with Microsoft Windows). You may download a FREE copy of the RealOne software by clicking on the link to the right. Click on the "Free RealOne Player" text link near the middle of their page to get to the page for downloading the free version of their player.

Streaming RealVideo

Download Before Playing

The downloadable version is available in either RealVideo or Windows Media formats. The Windows Media version is designed to be viewed using the Windows Media player, which is available on most workstations using the Microsoft Windows operating system.

After you download one of these files, you will need to unzip it. You may already have software to unzip files on your computer; if not, a variety of free software is available on the Internet. Be sure to keep track of where the file is placed when you unzip it. Next, if you have the appropriate player already installed, simply click on the video file in a file listing and the appropriate player will open and play it (or you can open the player first and then open the file from within the player).

Low Resolution Copy -- for dial-up connections

Some Technical Notes on Internet Streaming Video

Streaming videos over the Internet requires the ability to send a large amount of data in a continuous, uninterrupted stream. It is necessary to limit the picture size for even the fastest connections, and dial-up connections can barely deliver satisfactory streaming video.

As the server must continuously deliver a large amount of data for each person watching a video, we must also limit the number of people who can watch a video at the same time. If you get a message that the server is busy, please try again at a different time, or download one of the downloadable versions and watch it after you download it.

RealOne Player Volume Control
To adjust the sound volume, use the volume control on the player program. You may also have a separate on-screen master volume control that comes with your workstation, and you may need to adjust this volume control also to obtain sufficient volume.

Producing a low resolution version which is clear enough to read the closed captions is a particular challenge. If you need to use this version we recommend that you also download the text transcript to help you to follow along with the video.

We would like to get your comments on this method of making this Program Educational Meeting video available. Send them to insure-webmaster@opm.gov.
