Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recruiters and hiring specialists recently visited Fort McPherson, Georgia, as part of Phase II of the Veteran Invitational Program (VIP) which presents service men and women with opportunities to serve in the American Civil Service.

The VIP II program includes seminars explaining the specifics of veterans' preference and special hiring, workshops on resume writing and interviewing, and a hands-on presentation of the usajobs.gov website - the primary source for finding federal employment.

"These visits are central to the mission and work of the Office of Personnel Management," stated Acting Director Dan G. Blair. "Our hope is that each person in attendance will come out of the sessions more informed and better equipped if they decide to transition into service within the Federal government. I am glad so many of our Nation's patriots are able to participate."

"The presentation was well received and a lot of excellent information was provided," remarked George Bullock, Transition Services Manager with the Army Career and Alumni Program at Ft. McPherson. He also expressed his appreciation for the time taken by OPM to travel to Georgia and offer help to the soldiers, civilians and human resources personnel who were in attendance.

This visit is one stop in a comprehensive tour of bases throughout the country. OPM will continue this program with visits later this month to Fort Myer, Virginia; Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Fort Meade, Maryland; Camp LeJeune, North Carolina; and Cherry Point, North Carolina.
