OPM Applauds Representative Tom Davis for His Introduction of Legislation Allowing Federal Agencies to Rehire Federal Retirees

Washington, DC -- Linda M. Springer, Director of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management, issued the following statement in response to the introduction of legislation (HR 3579) by Representatives Tom Davis (R-Va), Frank Wolf (R-VA) and Kenny Marchant (R-TX). This legislation would allow federal agencies to rehire federal retirees on a temporary basis to assist with short-term, time-sensitive projects and train the next generation of federal employees. Davis' legislation, H.R. 3579, also would allow rehires to return to the federal workforce without losing their annuity benefits.

"I want to thank Representatives Davis, Wolf and Marchant for their leadership on federal employee issues. By introducing this legislation, these Congressional leaders are providing agencies with the tools they need to meet their mission needs so they can serve the American taxpayer effectively.

I look forward to continuing to work with Congress to secure successful enactment of this bill."
