OPM Director James Congratulates the Department of Energy for "Getting to Green"

Washington, D.C. - During her speech Improving the Way the Government Serves the American People, U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Kay Coles James congratulated the Department of Energy (DOE) for all the work it did to achieve a "Green" in the Strategic Management of Human Capital on the President's Management Scorecard. James' address was delivered during a DOE event honoring its employees.

"The President expects us to improve the management and performance of the U.S. Government by being more citizen-centered, results-oriented and market-based," said James. "And you are doing just that! You have certainly shown remarkable results and today I am here to officially recognize you for ‘Getting to Green' in the Strategic Management of Human Capital, a very impressive achievement."

James thanked DOE Secretary Spencer Abraham for his dedication to creating a federal work force capable of providing the American people the service they demand and deserve.

By achieving a Green status, the DOE is furthering its mission and the strategic management of its work force.

During her speech, James singled out DOE employees who are successfully leading the agency. "The DOE's success is the result of Deputy Secretary Kyle McSlarrow's clear direction and leadership on implementing the President's Management Agenda. You ‘got to green' by emphasizing accountability, focusing on results, and through the hard work of your Chief Human Capital Officer, Claudia Cross, and her staff."

"Secretary Abraham and the DOE have provided for the continuation of the critical work of your agency because you are planning strategically today for your agency's future work force tomorrow - with the SES Career Development Program, the Executive Coaching Program, the Mentoring Program, and others," said James. "You have succeeded in what is needed by the America of today and tomorrow - a transformation in the employment, development and evaluation of the federal work force with results in mind."
