WASHINGTON - Kay Coles James, Director of the United States Office of Personnel Management, today announced that OPM has completed an additional three A-76 streamlined competitions for billing and collecting, trust fund accounting, and administrative accounting activities. As in the previous eight competitions, OPM employees won the competitions, proving that federal workers can provide better value to taxpayers than the private sector contractors.

"It is with great pleasure that I announce that, once again, OPM employees came out the winner in yet another competitive sourcing," said Director James. "We work for the American people, and we are committed to ensuring that we give them the best value for their hard earned money. Team OPM welcomes competitions between the federal government and private sector to perform activities that are not inherently governmental because the competitions, when done fairly, result in the best value for the taxpayers of this great nation. Competition drives excellence and Team OPM is intensely competitive."

These most recent competitions included over 93 employees who work at OPM headquarters in Washington, D.C. "These OPM employees were determined to be able to perform these activities more efficiently than the private sector and as a result, were selected to continue to perform these activities for the next five years," Director James added.

"President George W. Bush, through his President's Management Agenda, has called for the federal government to deliver results to the American people, and competitive sourcing is one tool for meeting that challenge," said James. "By placing these positions through these competitive sourcing competitions, our employees have found ways to improve their organizations and internal processes, resulting in a stronger and more efficient organization."

To date OPM employees have won a total of eleven job competitions undertaken thus far, resulting in 384 jobs remaining federal due to the employees' tough competition with the private sector and excellence in service to the American taxpayer.

OPM has one more A-76 streamlined competition to be completed this year of its computer assistants and building management assistant activity in Macon, GA. It also is conducting an A-76 standard competition involving clerical, technical and administrative support positions.
