OPM Governmentwide Super Conference to Draw Over 1,650 Attendees

Steven Goldsmith, former Mayor of Indianapolis, to be a featured speaker

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Kay Coles James announced Mr. Stephen Goldsmith, Special Advisor to President George W. Bush and former Mayor of Indianapolis, has been confirmed to address OPM's Federal Workforce Conference.

"Mr. Goldsmith's reputation for transforming government institutions is far-reaching, and we are honored to have him address our conference and share his unique insights," said James. Mr. Goldsmith currently serves as the Chair of the Corporation for National and Community Service. His two-term position as Mayor of Indianapolis earned him a national reputation for innovations in government by cutting the city's spending and identifying more than $400 million in savings.

The 2004 OPM Federal Workforce Conference is scheduled for September 8-10 at the Baltimore Convention Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Other speakers include Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Alphonso Jackson, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Veterans' Affairs Anthony Principi, and David Walker, Comptroller General of the Government Accountability Office.

James stated, "The security and safety of our federal work force is critically important to President Bush and me, and the conference will help agencies in their continuing efforts to secure the safety and well-being of their employees. By focusing a component of the conference on federal emergency planning efforts, our message is that nothing is more important than the integrity of the federal government and the safety of its work force."

Additional information and conference registration procedures can be obtained at www.opm.gov/conference.
