Washington, DC - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) recently participated in Washington, DC, Delegate Eleanor Holmes Norton's eighth annual job fair.

"The federal government wants the best and the brightest employees to serve their country and share their knowledge, skills, and energy," commented OPM Director Linda M. Springer. "The contributions of federal employees serve America and respond to the challenges of the 21st century."

The Federal Job Search workshop, presented by OPM staff, focused on employment opportunities in the federal government; completing Form 612, the Optional Application for Federal Employment; effectively answering knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA) questions; and general tips on preparing a resume and enhancing interview skills.

In addition to its one-hour workshop, OPM also staffed a booth in the Grand Ballroom of the Washington Convention Center where the fair was held. Visitors to OPM's booth had an opportunity to receive assistance on navigating the USAJOBS website (www.USAJOBS.gov). USAJOBS is the federal government's official source for jobs and easily accessible employment information. Besides the website, information is available on the USAJOBS automated phone system at 703-724-1850; the TDD number is 978-461-8404.

"I continue to hear from qualified and capable constituents who seek assistance in their job searches," said Norton. "I sponsored this job fair in response to that need. It's gratifying to see the overwhelming interest among attendees for OPM's excellent presentations."

In addition to OPM, more than 70 other agencies and private sector employers supported the job fair. This year's fair, open to all District of Columbia residents, drew about 3500 people from the community.
