OPM Director Kay Coles James Encourages Historically Black College and University Students to Consider a Rewarding Career in Federal Government
James mobilizes OPM recruitment teams for Black History Month
Washington, D.C. - In honor of Black History Month, U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Kay Coles James will continue a nationwide recruitment initiative to bring America's best and brightest people into the Federal workforce. James is mobilizing the OPM recruitment team and employee volunteers to take the message of the noble calling of public service to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) nationwide.
James said: "OPM will continue our aggressive recruitment campaign by going to campuses where the best and brightest students are being prepared to enter the workforce. We want to continue our annual campaign to HBCU's to encourage the next generation of students to join us in making history by working for America."
"These outreach activities are an important part of our overall outreach strategy. Just as we have utilized the Candidate Development Program to attract mid-career managers and emerging executives into the federal government, this effort is designed to reach out to all communities and ensure they are aware of the vast opportunities available in the civil service." James added.
This recruitment initiative will provide an opportunity for students to acquire information on public service careers and the great benefits and opportunities for advancement. Federal employee volunteers will be on hand to offer their expertise and experiences -- serving as positive role models, demonstrating to college students the great opportunities and fulfillment provided by a career in the Federal Government.
In February, OPM will sponsor recruitment booths at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama, Cheney University in Cheney, Pennsylvania, Morris College in Sumter, South Carolina and Xavier University of New Orleans, Louisiana.
At each location, the newly updated and automated www.usajobs.gov and www.studentjobs.gov web sites will be showcased and assistance provided to students interested in exploring the many opportunities available in the government.
Additionally, for those students interested in a scholarship or grant, the e-scholar link from the Student Jobs website is a key resource.
James encourages students to attend the events, access the many resources available on-line and learn why the Federal Government is the "employer of choice."
