Federal Recruiting Ads Airing in Albuquerque
Prime Time Television Campaign Coincides with Federal Career Days at University of New Mexico, New Mexico State University
Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management's "What Did You Do At Your Job Today?" prime time televisionad campaign is on the air in its 18th U.S. media market this week, with two new spots debuting as part of the now 10-part series, OPM Director Linda M. Springer announced.
"These ads - featuring real Federal employees in an exciting variety of jobs serving the American people - are an important part of our efforts to attract new talent to a Federal workforce which is facing an impending retirement wave and currently has in excess of 30,000 vacancies a month on the Federal jobs website, www.USAJOBS.GOV," said Springer.
The two most recent 30-second commercials in the series - which will make their debut run on Albuquerque television stations from October 17 through October 24 - feature Shakur Walker, an electrical engineer with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission who inspects nuclear power plants, and Sarah Stauderman, a Preservation Manager at the Smithsonian Institution.
The latter ad - taped at the Smithsonian's National Museum of Natural History - elicits a "Night at the Museum" movie feel with its focus on one of the institution's most prominent dinosaur skeletons. Along with the two new ads a third spot, featuring NASA microbiologist Monserrate Roman, will also run in the Albuquerque market.
The ad campaign coincides with two OPM-sponsored Federal Career Days at New Mexico institutions of higher education this month. On October 23, OPM is partnering with New Mexico State University and the New Mexico Consortium of Career Educators and Employers in Las Cruces as a sponsor of the Public Service Career Showcase 2007.
The career fair, featuring dozens of Federal, state, and municipal employers as well as various non-profit agencies, will take place at the Corbett Center Ballroom from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. The activity is open to all students from post-secondary institutions throughout the state of New Mexico, as well as the El Paso, Texas area.
On October 25, OPM is playing a similar sponsorship role in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico (UNM). A Public Service Career Showcase will be held at the UNM Student Union Ballroom from 8:45 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
On October 27, OPM will also be among the exhibitors at the 33rd Annual International Symposium and Career Fair of the Society of Mexican American Engineers and Scientists (MAES), to be held at the Albuquerque Convention Center from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
