Washington, D.C. - During her keynote address at the Class of 2010 Finalists' Job Fair for those participating in the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program, U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Deputy Director Christine Griffin thanked the audience for their commitment to work for the Federal government, especially now, "when their country needs them the most."
"I have had the chance to talk with public servants - and those that want to join the Government's ranks - from all over the country," said Griffin. "And I am always struck by the common thread that runs through the Federal community...that thread being the dedication to work, a high level of commitment to mission and the overall pride at being part of America's civil service. I bet you won't find any other employer that can offer you the kind of career opportunities combined with the pride of serving and protecting the public."
The PMF Job Fair, held March 30 through April 1 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, brought together more than 2,000 participants, including finalists and representatives from more than 87 agencies. A majority of the job offers made were a result of connections made during the event, with agencies' depending on it to help them educate and hire those that want to "answer the call to leadership."
The 30 year old and highly selective PMF Program is intended to create a flexible, customer-focused method for the recruitment and retention of top talent into the federal civil service, targeting the best and brightest in graduate programs from many of the nation's top colleges and universities. It also is an excellent succession planning program for federal agencies facing human capital shortages.
To date, more than 7,000 Presidential Management Fellows have joined the Federal Government.
