2010 Feds Feed Families Launches Nationwide

Agency Heads and Congressional Leaders will come together at the Capital Area Food Bank to kick off the second annual Feds Feed Families food drive

Washington, DC - On June 7, 2010, U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director John Berry, Agency heads and Members of Congress will come together at the Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) to kick off the second annual Feds Feed Families food drive. Berry will announce the new governmentwide goal, while the Department of Agriculture (USDA) and Department of Energy (DOE) will announce their partnership with this year's food drive Agency heads and Congressional leaders will pack and distribute bags of food for the CAFB's Brown Bag Program, which provides over 2000 senior citizens with monthly supplemental bags of food. Berry has committed to bring 100 pounds of non-perishable items to start filling the shelves of the food bank and he is encouraging the attendees to do the same.

Food banks across the National Capital Region are reporting record numbers of families, children, individuals and first-time visitors seeking food assistance; and the CAFB has seen a 25 percent increase in demand over 2006.
