OPM Sponsors Space Coast Job Fair and Hands-on Training
Aerospace engineers affected by the ending of the Space Shuttle Program learn about federal employment

Washington, DC - As part of the U.S. Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) continuing effort to promote federal hiring in areas adversely affected by current economic conditions, OPM supported the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in its effort to assist aerospace workers impacted by the end of the Space Shuttle Program at the Space Coast Job Fair and Hands-on Training in Cape Canaveral, Florida.
"We need the best and brightest in government to continue to meet the unique challenges we face," said OPM Director John Berry. "This event combined the collected efforts of federal agencies, local government and private sector companies to connect employers with some of the dedicated, loyal and hardworking job seekers impacted by the ending of the Space Shuttle Program."
The event, sponsored by OPM, NASA's Kennedy Space Center and Brevard Workforce, assisted slightly over 1,000 attendees in identifying job opportunities as well as teaching them how to apply for the federal jobs. Thirty federal entities with job openings and 32 private sector employers were in attendance.
"This event is another testament to the collaborative partnerships dedicated to helping this world renowned talent transition into post-Shuttle employment," said Judy Blanchard, Director of Industry Relations for Brevard Workforce. "It is also an affirmation of the unique skill sets they bring to federal and private employers."
The Space Coast Job Fair and Hands on Training showcased these engineers and technicians, many who stayed for the Space Shuttle's final mission, and some of the most highly-skilled workers in the country with expertise in civil, military and commercial space activities.
