2002 BIWEEKLY PAY CAP ON
PREMIUM PAY FOR
REGULAR GS EMPLOYEES*
GS
employees (excluding law enforcement officers) may be paid certain types of
premium pay in a pay period only to the extent that the aggregate of basic pay
and premium pay for the pay period does not exceed the biweekly rate for GS-15,
step 10 (including any applicable special salary rate or locality rate of pay).
(See 5 U.S.C. 5547(a) and 5 CFR 550.105.)
The table below provides the biweekly pay cap amounts applicable to all
GS employees, except those (1) for which there is a higher GS-15, step 10,
special salary rate or (2) who are law enforcement officers under 5 U.S.C. 5541
and 5 CFR 550.103. These rates are
effective as of the first day of the first applicable pay period beginning on or
after January 1, 2002.*

* Section 1114 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2002 (enacted on December 28, 2001) amended the premium pay cap provisions that apply to GS employees and law enforcement officers at 5 U.S.C. 5547. This amendment will become effective on the first day of the first pay period beginning on or after April 27, 2002. The Office of Personnel Management will post information on the new premium pay cap provisions at www.opm.gov/oca prior to this effective date.
