Washington D.C. – The Office of Personnel Management has joined forces with the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) Local 32, and our Eurest cafeteria and in cooperation with the USA Freedom Corps office at the White House to hold a food drive supporting the Capital area. “It’s important to join in the spirit of sharing during this traditional time of giving to support this worthy effort. We can help those who are suffering from hunger in our area,” said OPM Director Kay Coles James. Food collection boxes have been placed throughout the OPM Theodore Roosevelt building during the week of December 9th, through December 13th and all OPM staff are encouraged to join the fight against hunger. The Eurest cafeteria is offering free products to all that donate and the AFGE local 32 has also encouraged all of its members to help make this holiday season a special one for members of our community who are in need. “The AFGE local 32 has been involved with the holiday food drive for several years now. We are proud to have partnered with the OPM and have our members show their generosity in support of the community that we all share,” said AFGE local 32 President Michelle R. Tolson. The donations of non-perishable food items are given to the Capital Area Food Bank, the D.C. metro areas largest public, non-profit food resource. It distributes food to more than 750 member feeding programs and provides millions of pounds of food to the local community every year.
OPM oversees the federal work force and provides the American public with up-to-date employment information. OPM also supports U.S. agencies with personnel services and policy leadership including staffing tools, guidance on labor-management relations and programs to improve work force performance. |
