OPM logs ten-fold traffic increase in super-highway site in first twenty-four hours
WASHINGTON - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) announced today that nearly 300,000 people visited its new, revamped USAJOBS website on Monday, August 4, the first day the new site was unveiled, compared to 36,000 on the old site the week earlier, on July 28. There were 800,000 visitors to the legacy site for the entire month of July, and it is likely more visitors will access the new site this week than visited the old site during the entire month of July. USAJOBS.opm.gov is the primary source for jobs in the federal government.
The website received more than 309,000 visits in the first 24 hours, with users spending an average of more than 13 minutes on the website. More than 4 million pages on the website were viewed by users in the first 24 hours. During business hours the site averaged nearly 20,000 visitors per hour.
“The revamped version of the USAJOBS website is true to President Bush’s pledge to make the federal government more citizen-centered and customer-friendly,” said OPM Director Kay Coles James. “Based on the statistics from USAJOBS’ first 24 hours, we conclude the new website has caught the attention of citizens interested in serving our nation,” James said.
The USAJOBS website is the one-stop source for federal jobs and employment information for the federal government. It is part of the “Recruitment One-Stop” initiative, an effort to make applying for a federal job easier and more flexible than ever before.
OPM’s e-Government Program Director Norman Enger said “in the first day alone, we had almost 300,000 users visit more than 15 pages each while spending just under 14 minutes on the website. In technical terms, that’s ‘sticky,’ which means that people are coming to the USAJOBS website and they’re spending a lot of time on it. The next thirty days are important to the overall success of the USAJOBS website. We’re encouraging users to provide feedback so that we can continue to modify the website to further improve it.”
Other new features available to website users include storage for up to five online resumes; a personal career management home; an option to make resumes searchable by agency recruiters; and an opportunity to create and save application letters.
The Recruitment One-Stop initiative is one of twenty-four e-Government initiatives outlined in the President’s Management Agenda, President Bush’s strategy for making the federal government more focused on citizens and results, and one of five e-Government initiatives owned by OPM.
OPM oversees the federal work force and provides the American public with up-to-date employment information. OPM also supports U.S. agencies with personnel services and policy leadership including staffing tools, guidance on labor-management relations and programs to improve work force performance.
