What's in it for me?! As an employee, you may be wondering why you should participate in FEDMER. There are many advantages of participating in FEDMER:

	One-stop shopping - you will apply for both Social Security and FERS disability benefits at your agency. Your agency will assist you in completing all required forms, including the Statement of Participation.
	OPM and SSA will share medical evidence so that you don't have to ask your medical providers for two sets of duplicate original documentation. SSA will receive your medical evidence faster because it normally does not receive medical evidence with an initial application.
	When SSA makes its decision, OPM will receive a copy of SSA's decision letter. If you qualify for Social Security disability benefits, OPM can adjust your FERS annuity faster so that you receive the right amount sooner -- reducing the chance of an overpayment.
	OPM and SSA can make their decisions faster -- you won't have to wait as long to know what your benefits will be. The overall processing time for both FERS disability and SSA disability benefits will be greatly reduced.
