Emergency and telework-ready employees required to work must follow their agency's policies, including written telework agreements.</p>  <p><strong><em>Non-emergency employees</em></strong> (including employees on pre-approved paid leave) will be granted excused absence (administrative leave) for the number of hours they were scheduled to work unless they are:</p>
	<ul>
		<li>required to telework, </li>
		<li>on official travel outside of the Washington, DC, area,</li>
		<li>on leave without pay, or</li>
		<li>on an alternative work schedule (AWS) day off.</li>
	</ul>
	<p><em><strong>Telework-Ready Employees</strong></em> who are scheduled to perform telework on the effective day of the announcement or who are required to perform telework on a day when Federal offices are closed must telework the entire workday or request leave, or a combination of both, in accordance with their agency's policies and procedures, subject to any applicable collective bargaining requirements.</p>

	<p><em><strong>Emergency Employees</strong></em> are expected to report to their worksite unless otherwise directed by their agencies.</p>]]></content>

    <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>This update applies to: January 23, 2012</p> <p>Federal agencies in the Washington, DC, area are OPEN under an 11:00 a.m. DELAYED ARRIVAL and employees have the OPTION FOR UNSCHEDULED LEAVE OR UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK.</p> <p>Due to expected icy conditions, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management recommends that Federal employees remain off the road <strong>until 9:00 a.m. on Monday, January 23.</strong>  Federal Government offices will open to the public <strong>at 11:00 a.m.</strong> Employees who commute to the office will be granted excused absence for the delayed arrival.  Employees have the option to use unscheduled leave and/or unscheduled telework for the entire workday in lieu of a delayed arrival.</p>
<p><strong><em>Non-Emergency Employees:</em></strong></p>
<ul>
    <p><strong><em>Excused Absence.</em></strong>  Non-emergency employees who report to their offices will be granted excused absence (administrative leave) for the difference between their expected arrival time and 11:00 a.m.</p>

    <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>This update applies to: August 24, 2011</p> <p>Federal Executive Branch departments and agencies inside the Washington, DC, Beltway are OPEN with unscheduled leave and unscheduled telework available in accordance with agency guidelines.</p> <p><strong>Some buildings are closed</strong> pending further inspections. Please see the <a href="#closedlist">bottom of this page for a list of closed buildings provided by GSA</a>, as of 8:00am Wednesday, August 24th. While this list is as complete as possible, we do not have the status of all buildings. Check with your agency (e.g., agency website, emergency phone number, or supervisor, as appropriate) to see if your building has opened. <strong>Guidance from your agency or supervisor supersedes this list.</strong> This list will not be updated again until 4am on Thursday, August 25th.</p>
<p>If your building is closed, here are your operating guidelines:</p>
<ul>
    <li>Emergency employees are expected to report for work on time; </li>
    <li>Non-emergency employees (including employees on pre-approved paid leave) will be granted excused absence (administrative leave) for the number of hours they were scheduled to work, unless--
    <ul>
        <li>The employee is required to telework by his or her agency's official policy as reflected in his or her written telework agreement; </li>
        <li>The employee works or is on official travel outside of the Washington, DC area; </li>
        <li>The employee is on leave without pay (LWOP); or </li>
        <li>The employee is on an alternative work schedule (AWS) day off. </li>

Operating status for Wednesday, August 24th, will be posted by 4:00am.</p> <p>Many agencies in the National Capital Region are releasing employees for the day. OPM recommends any remaining agencies in the National Capital Region consider early dismissal for non emergency employees.</p>
<p>Employees need to be aware of traffic and commuting conditions. OPM will update Wednesday's operating status no later than <a href="http://www.opm.gov/status/index.aspx" target="_blank">4:00am Wednesday morning</a>. </p> ]]></content>

    <content type="html"><![CDATA[<p>This update applies to: February 22, 2011</p> <p>Federal agencies in the Washington, DC, area are <strong>OPEN</strong> and employees have the <strong>OPTION</strong> for <strong>UNSCHEDULED LEAVE OR UNSCHEDULED TELEWORK</strong></p>  <p>Non-emergency employees must notify their supervisor of their intent to use unscheduled leave or unscheduled telework.  Eligible employees may-</p>
	<ul>
    	<li>Use annual leave, earned compensatory time off, earned credit hours, or leave without pay; or </li>
		<li>As permitted by their agency's policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements, telework from home on a non-telework day, if the employee has a telework agreement in place that is approved for unscheduled telework.</li>
    </ul>
	<p>Employees <em>scheduled to telework on the day of the announcement</em> are expected to begin telework on time or request unscheduled leave.</p>
 	<p>Non-emergency employees may request supervisory approval to change their AWS day off or rearrange their work hours under a flexible work schedule.</p>
	<p>Non-emergency employees may request sick leave if they meet the qualifying conditions under law, OPM regulations, and follow their agency's policies and procedures.  </p>
 	<p><em>Emergency employees</em> are expected to report to their worksite on time unless otherwise directed by their agencies. </p>]]></content>
