    Welcome to the Retirement Info Center. We want to share information about retirement benefits for new, prospective, and current Federal employees, as well as Federal retirees and their survivors and benefits officers. Here you will find the most up-to-date information on changes, events, and other issues that may affect your Federal retirement benefits.

    Often, we will link to other pages on the official Website so that you can easily find updated information.

    As January comes to a close, it is time to start assembling everything you need to file your Federal income taxes.   The “hard copy” 1099Rs are hot off the press and will be in the mail this week.  There is, however, a way to access your 1099R today.

    Simply go to www.servicesonline.opm.gov (SOL).  If you do not remember your password for SOL, instructions are provided on how to get a new one.   While in SOL, make sure we have your correct mailing address and email address to ensure you receive future correspondence from us.

    If you enjoy getting your 1099R quickly and easily online, and have not already done so, elect to “opt in” to go green and skip the “hard copy” entirely next year!

    You can return to SOL if you need to tweak your tax withholding for FY 2015…or if you need another copy of your 1099R later.

    There is no need to call Retirement Services during business hours, as SOL is available 24-7 during tax season and year-round!


    Did you hear?  Federal retirees and survivors will receive a 1.7% Cost-of-Living adjustment (COLA) effective December 1, 2014.  You will see the increase in the January 2, 2015, payment.

    Why wait until you receive your annual mailer at the end of December to see your new monthly annuity amount.  Simply go to Services Online (SOL) (www.servicesonline.opm.gov) to see your new annuity amount.     If you do not remember your password for SOL, simply follow the instructions to get a new one.

    While on SOL, why not do some annuity housekeeping by checking to make sure we have your correct mailing address, email address and the proper Federal or state tax withholdings.   

    Additionally, help us reduce our carbon footprint by opting in to receive your annual mailer and 1099R electronically.  Receiving them electronically will allow you to receive the information sooner and save them directly to your computer for easy access in the future.  

    As always, OPM continues to keep your transactions on SOL safe, secure and easy for you to access at any time 24/7 365 days a year.

    Federal Law requires the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) to verify that Federal Retirement payments are made to the appropriate individuals and that all payments are accurate based on their status.  To ensure benefits are correct and make sure OPM is aware of any changes in status, OPM sends annual surveys to verify the accuracy of information on file.  OPM sends surveys to all annuitants under the age of 60 receiving a Disability Benefit, students between the ages of 18-22 or person assigned as the Representative Payee for an annuitant, and individuals receiving Annuity Supplement benefits prior to the age of 62.  Each survey asks specific questions regarding one’s status.  If you meet the criteria, you are required to respond in order to  maintain eligibility for continued benefits.  Failure to respond in a timely manner are likely to result in the suspension of benefits.  Additionally, non-responses could result in  overpayments of benefits and such benefits must be repaid.  Please remember to report all changes in direct deposit accounts, correspondence and email addresses to OPM since misdirected payments and undeliverable mail may also result in suspension of benefits.

    This message is to bring you the latest news concerning Services Online (SOL) that will benefit you and your family.

    Last summer, we introduced for the first time, the opportunity for annuitants and survivors to receive the annual notice and IRS 1099R from us using your SOL account. I’m pleased  to say this has been a big success. Thousands of you signed up to receive these mailings using SOL. We are expecting even greater enrollment this year. Simply go to www.ServicesOnline.opm.gov to sign up. If you do not remember your password, instructions are provided on how to obtain another one. Remember, after 15 months of non-usage, your SOL password will expire.

    Several of you have participated in our customer satisfaction survey.  Overall satisfaction with SOL is eighty-seven percent with ninety-one percent of annuitants completing their transaction(s).

    Retirement Services thanks you for helping to reduce our carbon footprint by reducing the number of mailings we send every year.

    OPM will continue to keep your transactions on SOL secure and easy for you to access as we move toward a modern and responsive system that meets your needs now and in the future.


    Just as I promised, we’ve added another new feature to Services Online (SOL). Now, you can see your current Federal Employees Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) coverage on line.

    To view and download your FEGLI or Verification of Life Insurance you will first need to log into SOL. If you have forgotten your password or have not logged onto SOL within the last 15 months simply log in to www.ServicesOnline.opm.gov and click the “forgot password link” to request a password.

    Once you log in to SOL, select the Verification of Life Insurance (FEGLI) link. Then follow the easy on screen instructions to print your FEGLI coverage information.

    While you can see your coverage amount, you will not be able to see your FEGLI designation of beneficiary election. If you are not sure who you designated as your beneficiary, or you have had a significant life change, such as a marriage, divorce, or death, you may want to consider completing a new designation of beneficiary form. You should also file a new designation of beneficiary form whenever a beneficiary's address changes. Failure to do so may mean that the Office of Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance cannot locate your beneficiary and, therefore, cannot pay the life insurance death benefits due. You can download the Designation of Beneficiary form at http://www.opm.gov/Forms/pdf_fill/sf2823.pdf.     Don’t forget to access SOL to opt-in to receive your information electronically. You must opt-in by December 9, 2013, to ensure prompt delivery.
