  • No.You do not have to change to Self and Family or Self Plus One coverage now.  As an employee or annuitant, you can change to Self and Family or Self Plus One coverage during any Federal Benefits Open Season or if you experience a qualifying life event.  However, you should remember that in the event of your death, the only way that your family member(s) can continue FEHB coverage is if you are currently enrolled in a Self and Family or Self Plus One enrollment (only the designated eligible family member under a Self Plus One enrollment may be eligible) and your family member(s) is eligible for a survivor annuity.

  • Yes, as long as your child is under age 26 and you have either

    1. a Self Plus One enrollment and the child is listed as the designated covered family member or
    2. Self and Family enrollment,.

    Since you are in an HMO, your child will be covered for services received from Plan providers and for emergency care away from home. Some HMOs offer benefits that are tailored specifically to your situation and others have reciprocal agreements with plans in other areas. Check with your plan.

  • If you recently left your federal job, contact your former agency personnel office. If it’s been more than 30 days since you left, you need to contact the Federal Records Center, http://www.archives.gov/frc/. The FRC is the depository for official personnel folders of former federal service employees.
