Christy K. Wilder

Christy K. Wilder was appointed as the Chief of Staff for the National Background Investigations Bureau (NBIB) in April of 2017.  In her current role as the Chief of Staff she supports the Director of NBIB in a wide range of functions from assisting with strategic initiatives, communications, congressional affairs and daily operations to management of staff.

Ms. Wilder came from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) and served as the Deputy Manager of the NBIB Transition Team, which was charged with implementing NBIB as an operating entity on October 1, 2016. At ODNI, Ms. Wilder worked for the Office of Legislative Affairs supporting the National Counterintelligence and Security Center (NCSC) as the principal interface to Congress on matters of government-wide counterintelligence and security initiatives.

Ms. Wilder began her Federal career in March 2003 as a Special Agent conducting background investigations for the Defense Security Service, Department of Defense (DoD). In 2005, when the investigative program was transferred to the U.S. Office of Personnel management, Ms. Wilder transferred to Federal Investigative Services (FIS) within OPM. As a FIS Special Agent, she served as an Acting Supervisory Agent-in-Charge and Operations and Policy Analyst; selected to support such programs as the White House Presidential Transition, Integrity Assurance Recovery to investigate potentially falsified investigations, and the modernization of the investigative processes. In 2008, Ms. Wilder was named National Agent of the Year and assigned to support the Suitability and Security Joint Reform Team in the rewrite of the Federal Investigative Standards. In 2010, Ms. Wilder began her employment with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) as an Assessment Officer, and was later promoted to the Oversight Branch Manager within the Special Security Directorate of NCSC. In this role, she stood up and formalized the Oversight Branch to carry out the Security Executive Agent’s oversight of personnel security programs across government to ensure effective and efficient processes, including the collection of government-wide performance metrics.

Prior to her federal career, she worked for five years as Specialized Court Counselor for the Department of Juvenile Justice in Wilmington, NC.

Ms. Wilder received a Master of Science degree in General/Theoretical Psychology, magna cum laude, in 1997 from Appalachian State University, Boone NC, and a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, in 1995.
