Michael Grant is a Senior Advisor to the Director and the agency's liaison to the White House. He brings to the role many years of experience in the Federal Government and at OPM, having served in three presidential administrations. From 1993 to 1997, Grant was the Deputy Chief of Staff for the agency. He has been in his present position since 2009.
Raised in the city of Hialeah in South Florida, Grant began his government career in the Jimmy Carter White House as a staff assistant for presidential appointments. During that administration, he also was instrumental in the appointment of the first director of the then new Federal Emergency Management Agency. From 1997 to 2000, Grant served as the Executive Secretary at the Department of Labor, where he put in place a new document management system.
When not at his desk at OPM, Grant can be found fishing the flats of Florida's lower keys from a kayak, not far from where he grew up.
