Equal Employment Opportunity
The Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Office keeps OPM in compliance with the laws, regulations, policies, and guidance that prohibit discrimination in the Federal workplace. EEO claims may be brought against OPM by employees or applicants who believe they have been discriminated against by OPM based on their race, color, sex (including pregnancy, sexual orientation and gender identity), national origin, religion, age (40 and over), disability, genetic information, and/or reprisal.
We are responsible for encouraging resolution and processing of informal and formal EEO complaints. We provide EEO counseling, administer the Alternative Dispute Resolution program, and adjudicate disputes related to EEO laws and regulations in accordance with applicable Federal EEO practices and procedures. We also provide EEO training to OPM employees.
The EEO Office also manages and administers OPM's Special Emphasis Programs and advises the OPM Director on diversity and internal EEO related matters. In addition, all required Special Observance and Special Emphasis initiatives to promote equal employment opportunity within OPM's workforce fall under our authority.
Any employee or applicant for employment who believes they have been discriminated against should contact the EEO Office within 45 days from the date of the alleged discriminatory event, the effective date of a personnel action, or the date they became aware of such discrimination.
