OPM Hosts Internal Revenue Service's Learning Management System

Joins OPM's e-Training Initiative Service Provider Network

Washington, D.C. - The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) continues to advance the two initiatives - expanding e-Gov and the strategic management of human capital as part of the President's Management Agenda.  Recently, e-Training, together with its GoLearn Service Provider, committed to host the Internal Revenue Service's (IRS) agency-wide Learning Management System (LMS) for more than 100,000 IRS employees.

Norm Enger, OPM's e-Government Program Director said, " I am delighted to welcome the IRS under the e-Training umbrella. In advancing President George W. Bush's Management Agenda, the OPM e-Training Initiative team is working hand in hand with agencies such as the IRS to ensure they fully benefit from a greater choice of service providers while moving toward standardized information technology. This collaboration is a perfect example of the Federal government's leveraging power through new agreements and greater energy devoted to meeting the training needs of our agencies."

The IRS LMS will allow employees to access their personal training plan, learning history, and IRS course catalogs. IRS employees will be able to view training progress, request training electronically, and launch web-based training. There are also long term plans for IRS to explore strategic integration with other internal legacy systems and implement a Learning Content Management System to better manage learning content.

IRS employees join a total of over 655,000 users on the GoLearn.gov site and the numerous agency training systems and services provided by the GoLearn Service Provider. The e-Training Initiative implemented an e-Learning environment which has been successfully adopted by more than 70 Federal agencies - doubling the growth of participating agencies from 32 to 70 in one year.

E-Training is one of twenty-four e-Government initiatives outlined in the President's Management Agenda, for making the Federal government more focused on citizens and results, and one of five e-Government initiatives managed by OPM.
