OPM Continues Major Media Campaign Aimed at Raising Awareness of Federal Job Opportunities

Washington, D.C. - Beginning June 4, the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) will launch the second phase of its major media campaign aimed at attracting new workers to the federal government. Advertisements will be run in the Biloxi-Gulfport (Mississippi) and the Davenport(Iowa)-Rock Island-Moline (Illinois) markets. The ad campaign will last two weeks.

"The federal government has important and interesting jobs available right now like food inspectors and patent examiners, to name a few," said Linda Springer, Director of OPM. "With this campaign, we are making more Americans aware of the opportunities that exist for them within the federal government. In addition, this campaign is part of our ongoing effort to combat the federal retirement wave that is likely to occur as baby boomers begin to leave the federal workforce."

The ad campaign helps to raise the awareness of potential employees around the country of the interesting and rewarding careers that can be found within the federal government. The media effort spotlights the government's premier job website USAJOBS. Updated daily, the site allows applicants to view more than 20,000 job openings and customize searches by criteria including agency, job title and location.

"At OPM, our job is to ensure the Federal Government will have an effective civilian workforce so the vital services provided to the country will continue - not just next week or next month, but for years to come," Springer added. "One of the ways we can do that is to make our fellow citizens aware of the opportunities that exist for them in the federal government, especially."

The two markets were chosen because a large number of federal job openings are available in and around each market.
