OPM To Host Veterans' Hiring Webcast

Vets Can Watch from their PC; Learn About Federal Careers

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Linda M. Springer will kick-off a one-hour webcast on Veterans' hiring this Thursday, July 12th, beginning at 10am. Representatives from Veterans Service Organizations (VSO) will be on hand to witness the presentation in person.

Veterans wishing to view the presentation from their personal computer should visit http://pointers.audiovideoweb.com/asxfiles-live/il83winlive3146.asx. Windows Media Player Version 9 will be required to view the webcast. A captioned version will be available at https://textcast.peoplesupport.com/textcast.asp?stream=usopm.

"Veterans' hiring is a very important and invaluable tool to recruit qualified and highly-motivated individuals into the Federal civilian workforce," Director Springer said. "With retirements set to increase dramatically over the next decade, it is imperative we seek out the best candidates to fill the coming void - and we need veterans who wish to continue serving their nation to take the lead."

Topics to be discussed during the webcast include:

  • Definition and types of Veterans' Preference and why it is given;
  • Special hiring authorities for veterans;
  • Eligibility for Veterans' Preference and other hiring authorities; and,
  • Applying for a Federal job.

Veterans who are unable to watch the live webcast will be able to view an archive copy at the OPM website - www.opm.gov - seven to 10 business days following the event.
