HR Training on Demand: More Summer Courses!

The Office of Personnel Management’s (OPM) Human Resources Solutions’ (HRS) HR Training on Demand (HRToD) program announces even MORE summer courses! Course offerings cover a variety of topics, including performance management, succession planning, assessment questionnaires, and classification.

Succession Planning

Succession management is critical to mission success and creates an effective process for recognizing, developing, and retaining top leadership talent. This 3-day interactive training will provide a comprehensive overview of the OPM Succession Management Model and industry best practices in alignment with the requirements of the 5 CFR 250 and the Human Capital Framework. Foster a Results-Oriented Culture: How to Write Plans and Standards

This 1-day workshop on writing performance plans and standards will give you confidence in your performance management planning process. A Federal performance management expert will provide hands-on training and best practices for writing measurable, results-oriented performance standards, discuss OPM policies and regulations for performance plans, and share tips for coaching others to improve performance standards. Communicate Like a Pro: Performance and Developmental Feedback

July 29| 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

This 1-day course provides an overview of how to conduct effective performance and developmental discussions with employees. The instructor shares examples of effective discussion tactics and guides participants on how to structure different types of performance and developmental discussions. Participants will also engage in an interactive role-play exercise, based on real world scenarios, to practice conducting feedback discussions. For more information, click here.

Best Practices in Assessment Questionnaire Development

August 12-13| 8:00am – 4:30pm | Washington, DC

$950/person

This 2-day workshop equips HR specialists with the knowledge and skills required to develop a valid assessment questionnaire (AQ) and improve your agency’s ability to identify the most qualified applicants. A highly experienced, federal HR Specialist and Industrial/Organizational Psychologist instruct participants on best practices and steps for developing an effective AQ for use in an automated system (such as USA Staffing). Topics include job analysis, minimum qualifications and specialized experience, item writing, rating scales, and scoring. This course also includes expanded models and exercises focused on the most relevant staffing needs of federal HR specialists. Participants receive a comprehensive handbook that serves as a critical job aid and supplements agency standard operating procedures and the Delegated Examining Operations Handbook. Classification Refresher

September 22-24| 9:00am – 4:00pm | Washington, DC

$900/person

In this 3-day refresher training, a federal classification expert will discuss current topics in basic and advanced classification (e.g., the Factor Evaluation Standard and narrative standard formats, defensible evaluation statements, statements of difference, and classifying developmental and supervisory positions). The instructor will review commonly appealed classification decisions, discuss position management issues, and provide an update from OPM's Classification Policy Section.
