OPM Director Kay Coles James Names Ana Alicia Mazzi Deputy Associate Director for Workforce Relations and Accountability Policy

This position is critical as we move forward in the human resources transformations at the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and the next wave of agency transformations," said James.

Washington, D.C. - In her continuing effort to provide the highest caliber of service, U.S. Office of Personnel Management Director Kay Coles James has chosen Ana Alicia Mazzi to be Deputy Associate Director, Center for Workforce Relations and Accountability Policy.

"This position is critical as we move forward in the human resources transformations at the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense and the next wave of agency transformations," said James. "Ana brings a wealth of knowledge about what managers and supervisors need to know about the federal workforce to get the job done. I know that with her mediation skills, OPM will build upon the solid, vital relationships we have already established between those representing management and those representing employee groups and organizations."

Mazzi's main responsibilities will be to manage governmentwide employee and labor-management relations programs; advise OPM's Associate Director for Strategic Human Resources Policy and senior staff on internal labor-management issues; develop reports, position papers and action plans for senior staff to use for the proposed development or modification of new or existing labor-management objectives; and, advise on the formulation of governmentwide employee and labor relations policies and the implications of proposed, new, or revised human resources management policies.

Mazzi's most recently served as Assistant Director for Workforce Relations in the Justice Management Division of the Department of Justice, where she was responsible for providing oversight and guidance on employee and labor relations to all of the Department's bureaus and components.

Prior to her DOJ appointment, Mazzi was an attorney-advisor with OPM's Office of the General Counsel, preparing and filing briefs with the Merit Systems Protection Board in support of the OPM Director's petition to intervene in or seek reconsideration of cases.

Mazzi received her Juris Doctor degree from the Washington College of Law at the American University in Washington, DC, and is licensed to practice law in the State of California.
