OPM To Sponsor Federal Career Day at The Ohio State University
Dozens of Federal Agencies Will Be On Campus Searching for Talent
Washington, D.C. - U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Director Linda M. Springer today announced OPM will sponsor a "Federal Career Day" at The Ohio State University in Columbus, OH to showcase the thousands of career opportunities available in the Federal government. The career day will be held Wednesday, November 8 at the Ohio Union East Ballroom from 11:00am to 3:00pm.
"With more than 22,000 jobs available at any time, and more expected to open up due to retirements and attrition over the next 10 years, we must reach out to our best and brightest students from schools such as The Ohio State University and show them what the government has to offer," Director Springer said. "Regardless of educational background, or where an individual's interests may lie, rewarding career opportunities are available in the Federal civilian workforce."
The Federal Career Day will feature exhibits from dozens of Federal agencies highlighting immediate job needs. Representatives will be on hand to explain potential opportunities and answer any questions. Although special emphasis is being placed on occupations where needs are highest, such as those in engineering, science, and the medical field, Springer said needs are much broader.
"Needs exist in every facet of the Federal government," Springer said. "We need everyone to bring their talents and skills to the table."
Springer said OPM has been working diligently to recruit the next generation of Federal civilian workers. Television ads produced by OPM have aired in markets across the United States, encouraging college students and young professionals to consider serving in the Federal workforce. These ads will begin airing in the Columbus-region beginning Monday, November 7, and will run for two weeks on network and cable channels.
Additional Federal Career Days are scheduled to be held at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM; and Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA on November 15. The first Career Day was held at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA on October 12.
