The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) confirms that the information on this website is complete, accurate, reliable, and up-to-date as of March 4, 2024 for the agencies that have provided certifications. OPM coordinated with the White House Office of Presidential Personnel to verify the data for presidential appointees working in executive departments and agencies.

The information listed reflects positions that have been submitted in prior Plum Books, as well as their current incumbencies. Information for entities not included in prior Plum Books, as well as newly-established entities since the publishing of the 2020 Plum Book, acting incumbencies, and historical incumbencies, will be included later in the 2024 update of the Plum Book and website. OPM’s confirmation is made in reliance on certifications provided by each responding agency.

Data Standards

Data elements listed on the website will include:

Agency (i.e., Department, Independent Regulatory Agency, Board and Commission, and Government Corporation) and Component (i.e., Bureau, Sub-Agency)
Position title
Incumbent name and unique identifier
Geographic location (i.e., city, state or province, and country)
Pay plan
Level, grade, or rate of pay (if applicable)
Term length
Expiration date (for term and time-limited appointments)
Acting incumbencies and historical incumbencies

Data Timing

Agencies will provide updates to their data not less than once during each year, as directed by OPM.

Data Legend

Position Title (Column 1)

Listed are the position titles and the names of the organizations in which they are located.

Name of Incumbent (Column 2)

Listed are the names of individuals serving under the various appointments. The term ‘‘Vacant’’ is shown for positions that were not occupied as of the date that the relevant agency last updated its data.

Position Location (Column 3)

Listed are the cities, States/provinces, and (if applicable) foreign countries in which the positions are located.

Note:

The "Washington, DC" location includes positions in the entire metropolitan area and therefore may include certain cities and counties in the States of Maryland and Virginia.

Type of Appointment (Column 4)

Listed are letter codes that denote the type of appointment under which the position incumbent is serving. Note that several categories of positions can be filled by more than one type of appointment, e.g., SES positions listed in this publication may be filled by using career, noncareer, limited emergency, or limited term appointment authorities. Therefore, no ‘‘Type of Appointment’’ is shown for such positions when they are vacant.

Expires (Column 8)

Listed are the expiration dates for time-limited appointments. If there is no entry in this column, the incumbent is not serving under a time-limited appointment. Some member positions on agency advisory boards, councils, and commissions are filled initially for a fixed term. However, in some cases, individuals are statutorily permitted to serve beyond the term expiration date.
