Accessibility (Section 508)

This page is about providing people with disabilities equitable access to OPM’s website. It also contains links to other disability-related information.

About Section 508 at OPM

Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act requires that members of the public with disabilities have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to that provided to members of the public without disabilities, unless fulfilling that requirement would impose an undue burden on OPM. Section 508 also requires us to ensure that Federal employees with disabilities have access to and use of information and data that is comparable to that of Federal employees without disabilities, unless doing so would impose an undue burden on OPM.

We comply with the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998 (29 U.S.C. 794) and the accessibility standards issued by the Architectural and Transportation Barriers Compliance Board. For websites, at a minimum, we use the Web Content Accessibility Standards (WCAG) version 2.0, levels A and AA. As we update our websites, we consider additional WCAG success criteria and best practices.

For more information about OPM’s program, please read our Section 508 policy.

How to Submit a Section 508 Complaint

If you are an OPM employee and believe you have been discriminated against on the basis of disability, contact an OPM Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) Counselor within 45 days of the matter alleged to be discriminatory. If your complaint is about a personnel action, then count from the effective date of the action. The EEO office will walk you through the process of filing an informal complaint, which can be followed with a formal complaint.

Learn more about the EEO complaint process from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC).

If you are not an OPM employee and your complaint is about Section 508 at OPM, please fill out the form on this page.

If you are not an OPM employee and your complaint is not about OPM, please contact the agency in question.

Other Disability-Related Information

Reasonable Accommodations

Federal agencies are required by law to provide reasonable accommodation to qualified employees with disabilities.

OPM posts its job announcements on USAJOBS.gov. Each announcement includes contact information for a human resources specialist. These specialists can assist in meeting reasonable accommodations requests. If the application process includes a USA Hire Competency Based Assessment, you will find reasonable accommodations information for the assessment in the “additional information” section of the job announcement.

If you are an OPM employee seeking a reasonable accommodation, please contact OPM Human Resources or speak with your supervisor

Telecommunications Relay Service

If you are a Telecommunications Relay Service (TRS) user, dial 711 to be connected to a TRS communications assistant.
