Health – Federal Employees Health Benefits (FEHB) Program

Your child is still covered until age 26 under your Self and Family enrollement. If you are enrolled in an HMO and your child moves out of the HMO's service area, you may change your enrollment to another FEHB plan.

Your stepchild is not required to live with you or be financially dependent upon you.

Foster children must live currently with you and meet all of the requirements below:

  • the child must be under age 26
  • the employee must be the primary source of financial support for the child;
  • the parent-child relationship must be with the enrollee, not the child's biological parent; and
  • the employee must expect to raise the child into adulthood.

You can find more information about adding new family members in the FEHB Handbook. Your Human Resources Office or your Retirement Office can give you additional details about family member eligibility, including any certification or documentation that may be required for coverage.

See our website for more information.

Dental or Vision – Federal Employees Dental and Vision Insurance Program (FEDVIP)

Your unmarried dependent child under age 22 who is attending school and not living in your household, but is dependent on you for financial support is still an eligible dependent as the "One" under your Self Plus One enrollment or your Self and Family enrollment.

Life – Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program

Your child is still covered up to age 22.

Flexible Spending Accounts – Federal Flexible Spending Account Program (FSAFEDS)

Call FSAFEDS at 1-877-FSAFEDS (372-3337), TTY: 1-800-952-0450 to discuss possible options.

Long Term Care – Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program (FLTCIP)

This does not affect their eligibility to apply or their coverage (if already enrolled).
