OPM Announces Opening of Applications for 2027–2028 White House Fellows Program
WASHINGTON, DC — The US Office of Personnel Management (OPM) today announced that applications are now open for the 2027–2028 class of White House Fellows, offering exceptional Americans a unique opportunity to serve at the highest levels of the federal government and help shape the future of our nation.
Established in 1964, the White House Fellows Program is one of the nation’s most prestigious leadership and public service programs. Each year, a select group of accomplished individuals from across the country is chosen to spend a year working alongside cabinet secretaries, senior White House staff, and other top government officials, gaining firsthand experience in federal leadership and policymaking.
“The White House Fellows Program represents an extraordinary opportunity for talented Americans to bring their experience, ideas, and leadership to public service,” OPM Director Scott Kupor said. “Some of our nation’s most accomplished leaders got their start as White House Fellows, and we want the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers, and public servants to see what they can contribute. If you’ve ever considered serving your country, this is an opportunity to step forward, make a meaningful impact, and help shape the future of government.”
"This program has a distinguished legacy of leadership and public service that reaches back more than six decades,” Executive Director of the President's Commission on White House Fellows Mary Sprowls said. “We encourage patriotic, highly-motivated, and exceptional Americans to consider applying or urge others to apply.”
Selected Fellows participate in a full-time, paid fellowship in Washington, DC, where they work directly with senior administration officials on consequential issues facing the nation. In addition to their professional assignments, Fellows participate in an intensive education program featuring candid discussions with distinguished leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as community service initiatives that strengthen their commitment to civic engagement.
Since its founding, nearly 900 Americans have participated in the program, including Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine, former Secretary of State General Colin Powell, former Secretary of Transportation Elaine Chao, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin, and US Senators Bill Hagerty and Dan Sullivan. White House Fellows alumni have gone on to serve as military leaders, educators, entrepreneurs, scientists, nonprofit founders, and executives, united by a shared commitment to serving their communities and country.
Applications for the 2027–2028 White House Fellows class are open now. Interested candidates can learn more about the program and application process here.
