Current Interns

Questions and answers

Completing a Federal internship can open up many doors for you, including:

  • Conversion to a full-time position: Many Federal agencies use internships to identify and recruit talented individuals for full-time positions. If you excel during your internship, you may be offered a full-time job at your agency.
  • Competitive service eligibility: A Federal internship can give your job search a leg up. Interns who complete at least 640 hours of work may be eligible for a special hiring authority called “non-competitive eligibility,” which can help you get hired more quickly for Federal positions.
  • Grad school and fellowships: Some Federal agencies offer fellowships or scholarships for graduate studies, which can help you continue your education while gaining valuable work experience.
