Frequently Asked Questions Insurance

Under the Affordable Care Act, will Civil Service retirees that are low income or a certain percentage of the poverty level be eligible for any subsidy for their portion of the insurance premium they now pay?

There is no additional government contribution or subsidy for purchasing coverage under the FEHB Program.  Information about subsidies for individuals who purchase coverage on an Exchange may be found at https://www.healthcare.gov/how-can-i-save-money-on-marketplace-coverage/.  As a reminder, annuitants that drop their FEHB coverage to join the Health Insurance Marketplace will not receive an employer contribution toward coverage and will not be allowed to reenroll into the FEHB Program.  You should consult your tax advisor for information on whether any premium tax credits may be available to you.
