Frequently Asked Questions Training

  • 1. Within 90 days of completing the last of the 5 courses at a given level, email the list of the 5 courses with their start dates to validate completion within the three year period to the OPM LEAD Certificate Program Manager at LEAD@opm.gov .

    2. Once OPM has verified that you have completed your required courses,  you will have 90 days to complete a capstone paper (4-6 pages). You will email the paper to the LEAD Certificate Program Manager at LEAD@opm.gov.

    3. Once you receive a "Pass" rating on your capstone paper, the LEAD Certificate Program Manager will email  you the notification of the "Passing" rating as your official record for personnel. You will be notified about the date of the annual LEAD commencement ceremony in Washington DC where you will receive your certificate (signed by the OPM Director) with other LEAD graduates.  If you cannot attend the ceremony, your LEAD certificate will be mailed to you.

  • It is recommended, but not required to complete the Assessment and Core courses first before taking the Policy and Skill categories.

  • You may earn a LEAD certificate for a level of leadership, even if you are not at that level. We strongly recommend checking with your agency's training manager whether there are specific rules regarding taking courses for a higher level than your current position.

  • Several courses are ACE accredited for either or both undergraduate and graduate credit. Information about each course will specify the type and amount of credit for each course. Contact the LEAD Certificate Program Manager at  LEAD@opm.gov.

  • Visitors are not permitted during delivery of FEI programs.

    Leadership for a Democratic Society program participants can host visitors in their FEI bedrooms during non-working weekends. There is no charge for guests staying in participant bedrooms. Measl for guests are available but the participant there are visiting must pay for them.

    No pets are allowed on the FEI campus.  Only service animals for participants can stay on the campus.

  • The Federal Executive Institute offers three types of programs. All are designed to help Federal executives improve the performance of their agencies. the programs and their points of contact are:

    1. Leadership for a Democratic Society: FEI's four week leadership development program Federal executives.  Contact the LDS Registrar, Terry Stotts, at 434-980-6232.

    2. Interagency Courses: FEI's two-day to one-week courses focus on specific leadership issues. Contact the customer service representative, Joyce Reedy, at 304.870.8008.

    3. Custom Programs: FEI's single agency sessions are designed to meet specific organizational needs. Contact either Account Managers Karen Kimmel at 434-980-6230 or Claudia Lowe at 434.961.6403.
