Internship Supervisors

Questions and answers

  • Work with the Human Resources (HR) Office and the Agency Student Employment Program Coordinator or Pathways Programs Officer (PPO) to coordinate orientation and onboarding activities.
  • Assign interns defined duties and responsibilities consistent with their position description and goals for their target position upon conversion, if applicable.
  • Develop a Performance Plan for every intern.
  • Share information about learning and development opportunities with your interns. Opportunities can be found here. Contact Intern@opm.gov for information about free training and events.
  • Assign a mentor or staff member from your team to help your interns navigate your agency’s work environment.
  • Evaluate interns’ performance in accordance with your agency polices.
  • Determine whether to convert an intern to a term or permanent position in the competitive service. Consult your agency PPO for details.
