STATEMENT: Director Pon on Reshaping American Government

From OPM Director Jeff T.H. Pon

Today the Administration unveiled its plan to create a more efficient and effective Federal Government.  We support this important plan to reform and reorganize the Executive Branch by focusing our efforts on mission accomplishment, service to the American people, and responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars.

This transformation will enable a more streamlined Federal Government for the 21st century. It will facilitate the best use of American taxpayer dollars and modernize processes that are no longer working for our employees or customers. And it will allow us to continue carrying out the noble intent of the Pendleton Act of 1883, by championing an impartial, professional Civil Service based on the merit principle – that employees should be judged only on how well they can do the job.

This plan marks the next step in giving our taxpayers what they deserve: a transparent, accountable government that works for them.
