Questions and answers

If you are testing at a PSI testing center, read and follow all information you receive from PSI.

If remote testing:

  • You must remain on camera at all times.
  • You must present a valid photo ID.
  • You must use the camera to show a complete view of the room and your workspace. All papers and items must be put away.
  • You must follow all instructions from the remote proctor, who will guide you through the process.

Remotely proctored testers are required to have the desktop version of Microsoft Teams to test remotely. We do not recommend using the browser version of Teams as it does not support the functions needed to test remotely.

There are no restrictions about which computer you test with (government, work, personal, etc.), but we advise against using cellphones or tablets to take the assessment. Please note that it is a requirement that the computer used during the remote testing have an internal or external camera that will allow testers to show the proctor their surrounding area. If a tester is unable or unwilling to comply with the camera requirement, their session may be ended without an option to reschedule. You will need to move the camera to show the proctor your surroundings, including behind and beneath your computer.

Resource materials provided during virtual delivery of the assessment are the same as those provided electronically during in-person assessment. Please do not print out or save any documents for use in the assessment as it will not be permitted and will result in dismissal of your test. Test takers are allowed access to NotePad during the test and will be instructed to delete any notes taken prior to ending their test session. All other electronic devices must be turned off and put away before the start of the assessment.

We require testers be in a quiet room with no distractions. This includes: making sure your area is completely clear of all clutter and documents; there are no distractions such as pets or household members; all other electronics are completely turned off; and your assessment/proctor is the only window open on your computer.

You must consent to being recorded. The recording may be kept for at least six months in case any questions come up about the remotely proctored assessment session.

  • You will not be permitted to test (and will forfeit your exam fee) if you do not have:
    • Valid photo identification
    • A working webcam to show yourself and pan around the room
    • A clean desk area free of papers, books, phones, and other materials
    • Enough battery power to last two hours
    • See other details outlined in the scheduling invitation
  • You must confirm the compatibility of your equipment and systems prior to testing and be familiar with Microsoft Teams.
  • You must login 10 minutes prior to the start of your exam to ensure you can connect to audio and video. The proctor will join you at the scheduled time. If you arrive more than five minutes late to the exam session, you will not be permitted to test. Your exam will be canceled and you will forfeit your exam fee.
  • Dual monitors are prohibited.
  • You will be allowed access to NotePad during the test and will be instructed to delete any notes taken prior to ending your test session. If unfamiliar with NotePad, try it on your own prior to the session.
  • You must “share” your desktop for the duration of the exam so the proctor can verify you have no other applications or Internet sites open on your computer.
  • You must keep your audio and video on, and you will be recorded.
  • You are not permitted to leave the camera viewing area until your exam session is completed.
  • No one else may be in the room with you while you are taking the exam.
