Dental & Vision

Questions and answers

Federal civilian annuitants are eligible to enroll in dental and vision insurance under FEDVIP.  If enrolled, employees automatically carry FEDVIP coverage into retirement if they retired on an immediate annuity under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or another retirement system for employees of the Federal government. Individuals who retire for disability under CSRS, FERS, or another retirement system for employees of the Federal government are also eligible.  Federal Civilian Annuitants do not have to be eligible for FEHB or PSHB coverage. There is no "five year rule" for continuing coverage into retirement like there is in the FEHB or PSHB health insurance program and the FEGLI life insurance program.
