Questions and answers
No, there is no five-year rule with FEDVIP.
You are eligible for FEDVIP as an annuitant if you:
- Retired on an immediate annuity under the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS), the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS) or another retirement system for employees of the Federal Government; or
- Retired for disability under CSRS, FERS, or another retirement system for employees of the Federal Government.
If you meet either requirement above, you can continue your FEDVIP into retirement. Unlike with FEHB/PSHB health insurance and FEGLI life insurance, you can enroll in FEDVIP for the very first time after you have retired as long as you meet either requirement above. For more information, see the FEDVIP eligibility page.
