If potentially derogatory information is developed during an individual’s background investigation and not resolved via information collected from other sources, the investigating or hiring agency may give the individual an opportunity to provide information about the matter.
The records collected about an individual during the course of a background investigation are subject to Privacy Act requirements which means that the individual will have an opportunity to request a copy, in accordance with the investigating agency’s procedures, and to request an amendment in the event they believe the records contain inaccurate information.
