Suitability Adjudications
Questions and answers
Individuals who work for or on behalf of the Federal Government must undergo a background investigation so that a determination can be made of whether they can be trusted:
• With a credential granting access to government information technology systems or facilities (Credentialing);
• To protect the integrity and promote the efficiency of the service (Suitability/Fitness); and/or
• To occupy a position where the duties have an effect on the national security (National Security).
Individuals who work for or on behalf of the Federal Government must be reliable, trustworthy, of good conduct and character, have sound judgment, and be loyal to the United States. The scope of the investigation will depend on the nature of the position and the degree of harm that an individual in that position could cause to the public trust and national security.
