Life
When can I enroll?
If you are in a position that makes you eligible for the Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance Program (FEGLI), you are automatically covered for Basic your first day in pay and duty status. You have 60 days from your appointment date to elect Optional insurance. Afterwards, you may enroll by experiencing a life event, participating in an infrequent Life Insurance Open Season, or by providing satisfactory medical evidence of insurability. Flexible Spending Accounts

Long Term Care
Applications for coverage under the Federal Long Term Care Insurance Program were suspended December 19, 2022. This was done to allow OPM and the FLTCIP carrier, John Hancock Life & Health Insurance Company, the time to assess the benefit offerings and establish sustainable premium rates that reasonably and equitably reflect the cost of the benefits provided.
When not suspended, most Federal and U.S. Postal Service employees and annuitants, active and retired members of the uniformed services, and their qualified relatives are eligible to apply for insurance coverage under the FLTCIP.
