Can my family coverage continue if I die?
If you are enrolled in Self Plus One at the time of your death, the designated family member under your Self Plus One enrollment will continue to be covered after your death if they are eligible for survivor annuity. If the family member designated under your Self Plus One enrollment is not eligible for a survivor annuity, the enrollment cannot continue.
If the designated family member under the Self Plus One enrollment is eligible for a survivor annuity, they may increase their coverage to cover your other eligible family members.
If you are enrolled in Self and Family at the time of your death, your eligible family members will continue to be covered after your death if at least one family member receives a survivor annuity.
The coverage ends if the survivor annuity terminates. The survivors share of the cost of the plan is the same amount you are paying and will be deducted from the survivor annuity payment.
If your eligible family members don't meet the requirements to continue Federal Employees Health Benefits coverage if you die, they may be eligible for a 31-day extension of coverage and conversion and conversion as well as Temporary Continuation of Coverage.
