How can I find out what coverage I have?

You should contact the Human Resources Office of your agency. Your agency is responsible for maintaining your Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program records and processing your FEGLI forms. Your records are kept in your Official Personnel Folder (OPF) or its electronic equivalent.

You can also determine the value of your coverage by referring to a copy of your most recent Standard Form 50, Notification of Personnel Action:

  • In Block 27 on Standard Form 50, there is a 2-character code that represents your current coverage and a definition of the code. For example, if Block 27 shows "CO- Basic only," that means you have Basic life only with no optional coverage.
  • You can also look up the codes and their translation in the FEGLI Handbook.
  • Once you know the types of coverage you elected by translating the code, you can use the online calculator to determine the current value of your FEGLI by inputting your current age, salary and types of FEGLI coverage.
